Anselm's famous proof for God's existence in his Proslogion provoked a controversy throughout history. Analyzing the compelling nature of thought and the theological sense of the so called ontological argument, this article presents new exhibits for a contextualized judgement in the case of Anselm: In the composition of an inner and outer perspective in the dialogue with God, Anselm highlights the discourse between seeking and understanding as a linguistic competence in the act of belief.
