For the author the new interest in Trinitarian theology in all major denominations may run risk of presupposing too easily a common understanding of the Trinitarian God as ecumenical basis for ecclesiology and mission. Because of the interdependence between Trinitarian theology and ecclesiology on the one hand and mission on the other hand the ecumenical movement refers in search for church union to the trinitarian founded concept of koinonia and in search for a common conception of mission to the trinitarian understanding of Missio Dei. But this reference to the Trinitarian God may become dangerous if it isn´t recognized that there exist the same differences in the understanding of the trinity as before, not only between eastern and western churches but also within western and eastern denominations. The author analyses the interdependence between differences in Trinitarian theology and differences in ecclesiology, in mission or in the relationship between church and world. He points out the consequences of this interdependence and demonstrates on this background the importance of an ecumenical dialogue on trinitarian conceptions, which is necessary before presupposing the trinitarian understanding of God as common ecumenical basis for ecclesiology and mission. Finally the author exposes how progress in a common understanding of Trinity has positive consequences regarding the search for an ecumenicalecclesiology and an ecumenical understanding of mission. He emphasizes thatthe basis for such a progress can be recognized in all major denominations.
