Lately, a variety of disciplines from the humanities have directed their attention to the academic quest for "happiness". In contrast, Protestant theology is reluctant to join such inquiries, for the terms "happiness" and "the cross" represent opposite traditions, i.e., Aristotle and Luther. This essay ponders on Luther's objection against Aristotle and raises the question how one can live in the present.
