Hermanni, Friedrich
Luthers Lehre vom unfreien Willen als Fundament der Rechtfertigungslehre
Buch

Although Luther´s doctrine of the bondage of the will forms the anthropological correlative of his doctrine of justification, Protestant theology has not followed this doctrine as a rule. For it seemed to excludethe responsibility of man for his sin on the one hand, and the justice of God, who makes man responsible, on the other. The aim of this paper is to show that adhering to Luther´s doctrine of bondage of the will is indeed possible without being forced to question human responsibility and divine justice. To this end, the first part of the paper elaborates on Luther´s understanding of the nature of human will, while the second answers the controversial question of if, and to what extent, Luther represents a theological determinism.
