In den beruflichen Selbstverständigungsdebatten der Volksschullehrer wurde nach 1900 ein Bild vom neuen Lehrer konstruiert, an dem wichtige Vertreter der Reformpädagogik maßgeblich mitzeichneten. Zwei Reformmilieus profilierten dieses Bild des neuen Lehrers in unterschiedlicher Weise: das Milieu der Kunsterzieher und Persönlichkeitspädagogen im Entwurf des Lehrer-Künstlers und das Milieu der Jugendbewegung und der Gemeinschaftsschulen im Entwurf des Lehrer-Führers. Beide Entwürfe des neuen Lehrers waren für viele Volksschullehrer quasi-ideale Bezugspunkte für die Interpretation ihrer Aufgabe und übernahmen eine Orientierungsfunktion für die Entwicklung eines kollektiven beruflichen Selbstbildes. Durch die akademische Pädagogik als Lebensform geadelt, fand der neue Lehrer auch seinen Niederschlag im Ausbildungsprogramm der Pädagogischen Akademien. In the debates within the profession of elementaryschool teachers (Volksschullehrer) of after 1900, a picture of the new teacher was construed which was strongly influenced by major representatives of the reform movement in pedagogics. Two reform milieus developed a different profile each for the picture of the new teacher: the milieu of the art educator and personality pedagogue in the construct of the teacher-artist and the milieu of the youth movement and the community schools in the construct of the teacher-leader. For many elementary school teachers, these two constructs of the new teacher constituted a quasi-idealreference point in the interpretation of their task and served as point of orientation in the development of a collective professional self-image. Ennobled as a way of living by academic pedagogics, the concept of the new teacher also left its mark on the training program of the Pedagogical Academies.
