Rohls, Jan
Rembrandt und der niederländische Protestantismus

The article is concerned with the connections between Rembrandt and the different forms of Protestantism in the Dutch Republic. Being himself a Calvinist his art nevertheless reflects the religious pluralism of the Netherlands. In the beginning inspired by his teachers and Rubens he found his way to his own style of painting. His religious paintings are not so much an expression of Rembrandt's Calvinist background but instead reflect a large tradition of religious painting in the Netherlands.
