Verheißung und Verantwortung die Entwicklung der Naturrechtslehre Philipp Melanchthons zwischen 1521 und 1535
Buch

This article sketches the development of Melanchthon´s doctrine of natural law between 1521 and 1535. In order to prevent a fanatical abuse of Biblical law, Melanchthon introduced the apparent contradiction between reason and revelation into the theological differentiation of Law and Gospel. Natural laws, placed in human reason by God, are binding for Christians and non-Christians alike. Yet because Melanchthon saw the state as guarantor ensuring that these laws be recognised and respected, despite the sinfulness of humankind, he encouraged uncritical support of existing structures. However, he also argued that the concrete experience of faith can protect the believer from the arbitrary exegesis of reason.
