Die Kategorie "reformatorisch" ist eine normative, die historisch vor allemdurch das auf Luther und seine Rechtfertigungslehre zentrierte Reformationsbild der Holl-Schule gestützt wird. Dieses Bild aber verdankt sich einer Überbetonung von Luthers großem Selbstzeugnis von 1545, das suggeriert, die gesamte Reformation sei letztlich aus einem großen Urereignis, der punktuellen reformatorischen Entdeckung entstanden. In ein so begründetes Bild des Reformatorischen paßt weder Huldrych Zwingli hinein, in dessen theologischer Entwicklung die Rechtfertigungslehre nur eine marginale Rolle spielte, noch Luther selbst, dessen neben der Rechtfertigungslehre stehenden, gegenläufigen Äußerungen größere Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt werden sollte. Die Einheit der Reformation lag zunächst nicht in der Rechtfertigungslehre, sondern in der Ablehnung durch Rom, die theologisch auf die Aufhebung der Unterscheidung von Klerikern undLaien durch die Reformation reagierte. The word ´reformatory´ is a normative term, and is based historically on the concept of the Reformationin the school of Karl Holl, which centers around Luther and his doctrine ofjustification. However this concept can be traced back to the undue emphasis placed on Luther´s review of his life in 1545, in which he suggested that the entire Reformation originated completely from his new insight into the meaning of iustitia Dei. Huldrych Zwingli´s way of thinking, for instance, did not fit in with this interpretation of the Reformation, because the doctrine of justification did not play a central role in his theology. Th einterpretation of the Reformation mentioned abovedid not correspond to Luther´s own theology, which contained some medieval mystical elements that could not be absorbed or abolished by his doctrine of justification. The unity of the Reformation was not based on the doctrine of justification; it was more a result of the adversaries in Rome who defined all those groups who no longer distinguished between the laity and the clergy as heretical.
