Employing the semiotic instrumentarium of Charles Sanders Peirce, the author interprets Christian works of love as a sign: (a) It points to God the Creator as its origin. (b) As the different elements of the semiotic process change, so does the structure of the sign itself. (c) Christian diaconia will not be able to cover all existing needs for help; as a sign it sets a unique example of Christian existence, which has a significance of its own alongside the verbal signs of proclamation.
