This contribution deals with the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharistic celebration. The framework of these considerations is set by the ecumenical controversies on this topic. From a Roman Catholic perspective, it seems important to consider the philosophic background of the concepts that have been favored in tradition history to describe the real presence of Jesus Christ. Their key objective has always been preserving the biblical heritage. At the same time, the limitations of the human capacity to describe Eucharistic realities have to be considered together. It is also important to perform the celebration of the Lord's Supper or the Eucharist in an ecumenically sensitive manner, e. g. by a careful handling of the Eucharistic elements after the celebration. It is an also common concern of ecumenism to respect the diaconal dimension of the sacramental action.
