Christians of all times and denominations confess the resurrection of the dead. The question of how resurrection can be understood or imagined has been answered quite differently, however. Being a matter of faith resurrection is confessed in order to give consolation and comfort facing the limitations of human life. Being a matter of thought resurrection has to be plausible within the framework of a particular worldview. The article deals with different types of resurrection discourse within the New Testament: consolation (e.g. 1 Thess 4,13-18), narration (e.g. Mark 16,1-8), argumentation (1 Cor 15), with a focus on Paul's line of argument in 1 Cor 15, 35ff.
