This article focuses on the overlapping levels of the critique of religion. They range from interfaith criticism of religion and accusations of heresy to denominational polemics and even to the denial of God`s existence. These constellations of critique of religion are illustrated by the debates in the saddle period of modern age around 1800, in the philosophy of the Vormärz - the pre-March Revolution era - of Ludwig Feuerbach and Karl Marx, as well as Friedrich Nietzsche's critique of religion in the second half of the 19th century. In conclusion, based on this historical backdrop, the systematic meaning of the critique of religion is considered towards an analytically substantial concept of religion.
