Mastering Statistics Using JASP is a complete first course in statistics. Its earlier editions were developed over several years using systematic student feedback, first in Introductory Statistics courses and later in year-long courses in Statistics & Research Design (experimental psychology). The result of that feedback is a textbook that is written in a friendly, conversational style and is easily accessible to students with limited mathematical backgrounds.
My primary goal for this book has always been to help students develop a strong conceptual understanding of statistics-hence the title, Mastering Statistics. I've done that by providing expanded verbal explanations of concepts and formulas, using longer interesting and engaging examples to develop key ideas, and clarifying important concepts with pictures and graphs.
A second objective is to teach students to use statistics as a tool to answer questions about the causes of events in the real world. To accomplish that I've eliminated all manual (calculator) computations of statistics by incorporating an extremely powerful, free, and open-source data analysis program called JASP. JASP is integrated throughout the text for statistical examples and figures, and for end-of-chapter practice problems in data analysis and interpretation. The text is explicitly multivariate in its orientation and the chapters on correlation, linear regression, and partial correlation teach students to approach research in that fashion.
The third objective is to keep the cost of learning statistics to a minimum. Students already have enough debt. Textbook prices are out of sight and, frankly, on-line courses are not the answer. This text is published by Amazon KDP and is priced as low as possible.
