This article argues that Luther's ethical approach is basically a variant form of biblical ethics deeply informed by his hermeneutic principles. Based on the gospel of the justification of sinners by the grace of God, the key concepts of Luther's ethics are loving one's neighbor and helping him in need. It is in this respect and in a pragmatic way that Luther applies the biblical commandments.
