This 500-year-old confession has served for centuries as a prime text for the religious education of young people, but this practice has undergone a crisis in the last few decades. The author points out its lasting qualities as a dogmatics which refers to the core biblical narrations, and as an example of an ethics of thankfulness. The author comes to conclusions that the text is indeed no longer accessible for young people. It may, however, still be valuable in adult theological education where it can serve as a historical counterpart for the project of one's own theologizing.
