The title "Homo Deus", under which Yuval Noah Harari has drafted a "History of Tomorrow", challenges theological criticism. The questions discussed in this article concern the author's understanding of history and his prophetic claim, and especially the thesis that mankind is currently making a qualitative leap from homo sapiens to homo deus. Man, however, who seeks to replace the gods, makes himself replaceable by surrendering himself to the systems of artificial intelligence and the data empire he has created. The question of freedom proves to be the core problem here. Christian theology, on the other hand, reminds us of another way: the way of God's incarnation in favour of man's humanity.
