An der Quelle des Gebets neuere Untersuchungen zu den Psalmen
Zeitschriftenartikel

This essay attempts to show from ten different perspectives how the current scholarly discussion of the Psalms can contribute to overcoming the crisis of prayer, providing renewed courage and fresh motivation for speaking to God. Recent literature has shown that praying the Psalms means: 1. centring on basic, wisdom-oriented questions about being human (Forster, Oeming, Bons), 2. speaking truthfully about the dark sides of the world and of God (Zenger), 3. recognizing the political and economic reality behind the prayers (Seybold, Albertz, Gerstenberger), 4. drawing from the deep metaphoric treasure of the Psalms (Hauge, Riede), 5. understanding the dramatic movement of prayer (Brunert), 6. discovering new ways of identification (Kleer), 7. meditating on larger contexts (Hossfeld, Zenger, Mitchell, Rösel), 8. opening the entire breadth of different types of prayer (Miller), 9. practising life through an active process of reading (Erbele-Küster), and 10. understanding prayer as the quintessential sum of biblical theology (Mathys, Knauf, Oeming).
