More than one paradigm shift challenges the practices of rituals within the German Protestant church. Baptism, wedding, confirmation and church funeral became a mere option, a matter of individual choice, even for church members. Ceremonies and rituals migrate from church buildings and parishes to other places and are organized in very different ways (e.g. by "ritual agencies"). Church members are no longer the only target group. The practices of rituals tend to become more and more commercial services. The question arises of how this tendency can be integrated into a church theory.
