Die Rede widmet sich einem Kantate-Sonntag-Predigttext: der Episode von David, der als Saitenspieler am Königshof dient. Angesichts der biblischen Gesamterzählung vom Aufstieg und Ende des Königs Saul, der die Erzählung entstammt, kommt es zur Frage nach den Logiken von (politischer) Geschichte überhaupt. Die spätere Episode vom Speerwurf des Sauls gegen den Saitenspielenden wird interpretiert über ein Bild des Künstlers Ben Zion (1897-1987) dazu, seinerseits inspiriert durch ein Gedicht von Dan Pagis (1930-1986) zur gleichen Szene: wie politische und militärische Macht, wenn sie sich verewigen will, erkennbar wird daran, dass sie sich ultimativ bedroht weiß von Musik und Poesie und Schönheit und Tugend und Verstand.
The speech goes over the sermon text episode of David serving by playing music on a pluck instrument in the king's court. In view of the overall biblical narrative of the rise and end of King Saul, from which the story originates, the question of the logics of (political) history in general arises. The later episode of Saul's spear throwing against the musician is interpreted through a painting of the artist Ben Zion (1897-1987) about this, itself inspired by a poem by Dan Pagis (1930-1986) on the same scene: how political and military power, when it wants to remain forever, becomes recognizable by the fact that it knows itself to be ultimately threatened by music and poetry and beauty and virtue and reason.
