This essay deals with the question whether a teleological argument based on the fine-tuning of our universe succeeds or fails. Firstly, the empirical findings are presented and the requirement of an explanation is justified. Secondly, three possible explanations are considered, namely a future final physical theory, the many-worlds hypothesis and the planning hypothesis. These considerations lead to the result that the planning hypothesis is inevitable. However, a teleological argument, assuming the fine-tuning of our universe, is not able to determine the notion of the intelligent author of the universe.
