The author's farewell lecture before retirement deals with the accountability of theology to the scientific community, the church, and society at large. As neither theology nor any of these three 'publics' (Tracy) can claim supremacy, the account must be given in the form of an argumentative dialogue both on the level of scientific and philosophical rationality and with reference to the ultimate basis of being.
