Anhand der Geschichte einer bestimmten Gattung von italienischen und französischen Büchern, die im Zeitraum zwischen 1528 und 1675 sich großer Beliebtheit erfreute, wird untersucht, wie sich Gegenstand und Ziel der höfischen Erziehung im Ancien Régime in Richtung auf eine Erziehung der Leidenschaften verschoben. Einführend soll an der Figur des bourgeois gentilhomme von Molière die theoretische und historische Konstellation der Argumentation skizziert werden. Rekonstruiert wird ein Kapitel europäischer Moralerziehung, in dem sich Plagiate, Übersetzungen, Migrationbewegungen als bedeutsam sowohl für transnationalen Wissenstransfer als auch für die Herausbildung nationalen Bewusstseins erwiesen haben.
On the basis of the history of a specific genre of Italian and French books which enjoyed great popularity inbetween 1528 and 1675, the author examines in how far the subject and the objective of courtly education during the Ancien Régime shifted towards an education of passions. In the introductory part, the figure of Molière's bourgeois gentilhomme is used to sketch the theoretical and historical constellation of the argumentation. Thus, a chapter of European moral education is reconstructed in which plagiarism, translations, and migratory movements proved to be of importance to both the transnational transfer of knowledge and the formation of a national identity.
