Neu Die Leuenberger Konkordie heute eine Zwischenbilanz nach 40 Jahren
Zeitschriftenartikel

This contribution focuses on the present state of reception of the 1973 Leuenberg Concord. From a theological perspective, the process initiated by the Concord has proven productive and continuative, as is evidenced by the different theological studies emerging therefrom. In European Protestantism, the reality of the churches has changed since then, but still falls short of its theological insights. In view of the self-understanding as a "reconciled diversity", this essay discusses the discernible shift of emphasis from reconciliation to diversity and revises and specifies the concept of a communion of churches in ecumenical perspective. With reference to the foundations of the church, Protestantism needs to establish an inclusive concept of unity. Finally it is emphasized that ecumenism is not only a question of insight, but also one of definite will and claim to power.
