Neu Die Pfingstbewegung in Lateinamerika theologische, soziale und politische Reflexionen
Zeitschriftenartikel

Statistically, Pentecostal churches are the fastest growing religious movement in Brazil and Latin America. The task of practical theology is therefore to analyze this phenomenon, which has both direct and indirect influences on the historically grown churches, society and theology. This contribution first proposes definitions and origins of the Pentecostal movement. Second, it collects statistic data on its present growth and illustrates the characteristics of the Pentecostal movement such as the importance of experience and emotion or of the free and spontaneous effects of the Holy Spirit on the body, in the believers, lives, and the congregation. The essay discusses the moral dimension and satisfaction of human and social needs as well as the influence and impact of the Pentecostal movement not only within the religious realm, but also in society, culture, and politics
