The article first looks at a number of phenomena of global transformation in Christianity in modernity. Then it describes the role of the large churches in Europe, and finally outlines three global challenges for Christianity : realizing an inner-Christian ecumenism, working towards ecumenical relationships between the world religions, and defending the rationality of faith in a secular society.
