Digitalisierung und Wirtschaft 4.0 - Herausforderungen für eine Ethik der Arbeit
Zeitschriftenartikel

The paper maps the challenges of growing digitalization in the workplace in a Protestant social ethical perspective. As the assessment of such developments has to take social, political and economical parameters into consideration and needs to explain the normative frameworks that are considered relevant in that context, a first chapter calls the criteria of a Protestant ethics of work to mind. In a second step, the essay depicts the recent changes in the economical, political and social setup of labor that brought about ambivalent results: while there is an increase in jobs, employment has become more precarious and inequalities on the shop floor and in society at large are on the rise. The next chapter then sketches the changes involved in digitalization and the consequences of concepts like crowdsourcing, microtasking or advanced manufacturing for the production of goods and services and thus prepares the ground for a reflection on options and possible altematives in modeling work relations. A concluding ethical reflection then discusses preferable options in a Protestant ethical perspective.
