The author outlines the history and importance of the "Heidelberger Katechismus" from the
enthusiastic reception as a pedagogically valuable book of consolation, faith and education in the time of the reformation to it's rejection in the time of enlightenment until it's rediscovery in the 20th century. Furthermore the author is looking for points of relevance concerning the present times. Even after 450 years it is worthwhile to examine and study this work. Although crucial and guiding this work in the time of reformation, it is not very suitable as an educational programme today. The "Heidelberger Katechismus" can serve as a supplementary reference-book to reflect one's own faith and to start discussions with others about faith.
