The term 'community' has become the epitome of a threat to any difference or otherness in human social life. In contrast to this, more recent philosophies of community, such as those by Nancy, Agamben, or Esposito, try to conceive a new spirit of community. They posit the possibility of thinking and practicing community beyond a logic of identity and exclusion. In the framework of this social-philosophical debate, this article explores Paul Tillich's and Wolfhart Pannenberg's ecclesiological concepts.
