Although the family is once more increasingly moving into the centre of interest, it has not yet attracted sufficient attention in theology. The author seeks to correct this. He outlines the basic developments in the realm of the family in Germany, examines the theological relevance of family relationships, and presents learning-oriented thoughts on the family. Taking a religious education perspective, he names five problem areas which must be tackled in order to elevate the family profile as a learning place of faith. In conclusion, Domsgen points to the general theological significance of the family and briefly illustrates it with selected examples.
