Neu Gott und sein Ebenbild zur neueren Thomasforschung
Zeitschriftenartikel

The article presents a critical survey on recent research on Aquinas. The focus lays on Aquinas's trinitarian theology, on his understanding of the relationship between faith and reason and on his metaphysics. Special attention is given to the circulation motive in the Summa theologiae, which expresses God's selfgiving move towards the world. It is emphasized that Aquinas's trinitarian theology and his metaphysics of being are closely connected because both deal with God's gift. Aquinas's ontology fosters a mode] for a better understanding of how faith can be a certain knowledge of God. Aquinas's philosophy of the transcendentals is apt to show the relevance of metaphysics for theology, because it thematisizes creation as the giving of being, which aims at the response of human beings. This response is enabled by the sending of the Son and the Holy Spirit, who are "quasi ductrices in finem vel conjungentes".
