Martin Luther did not present a closed doctrine of the wrath or judgment of God, but formulated experiences that had different weight for him in different phases of his development. On the one hand, he remained attached to tradition, but at the same time trans-formed it with growing theological insight. Present and futuristic concepts of judgment stood side by side. He assigned the last questions to the hidden will of God in order to rule out all attempts at salvation through human powers.
