Right from the start, the concept of obedience plays a key role in Dietrich Bonhoeffer's theology. This paper traces its development in tandem with the development of Bonhoeffer's thought up to 'Discipleship' and outlines his leading theological decisions. Thus, the paper emphasises human obedience as a mode of resonance to God's grace and shows that Bonhoeffer's concept of obedience therefore is characterised by a gravity towards freedom.
