Since Immanuel Kant and Giambattista Vico the critic of reason and potential experience and knowledge are essential parts of modern sience. The contribution discussses reflections on potentials and limits of knowledge and cognition in Old Testament and Early Jewish Wisdom Literature. In Kohelet, Job and Proverbs 8:22-31 we find a multiplicity of aspects: God as the limit of human experience and knowledge; an optimism of knowledge combined with die figure of a personified wisdom that mediates between humans and the world as well as humans and God. A final section explores how these aspects of Old Testament and Early Jewish reflections have been used in the Wirkungsgeschichte and how they may contribute to our current discussions on wisdom and science.
