Grundfragen derf Johannesinterpretation im Spektrum neuerer Gesamtdarstellungen
Zeitschriftenartikel

Reviewing a number of recent comprehensive approaches on the Gospel of John, the author develops aspects of Iris own view of its interpretation. Chiefly in dialogue with Hartwig Thyen's commentary which is a exemplary for the the current tendency towards synchrony, the author demonstrates that issues of introduction and historical contextualization are by no means irrelevant for interpreting the Johannine text. Decisions on such issues necessarily have an impact on the interpretation of the text and should, therefore explicity, be discussed. Thus, the synchronic reading of the text should be complemented by a consideration of die historical context(s), including the quest for the making of the text. Since for historical and philological reasons 1-3John cannot be left aside, the idea of a 'Johannine School' is not to be dismissed out of hand. Therefore, Thyen's view of the radical unity of the text, including chapter 21, with die Beloved Disciple as a mere fictious 'author', is hard to be maintained.
