In this article Anne Käfer analyzes the success factors of interreligious dialogue. This dialogue is a hermeneutical task for which the dialogue partners need to understand the religious beliefs and convictions of one another. For this purpose, Käfer develops a new Christian understanding of truth and religion, two topics which should be discussed at the beginning of any conversation about religious convictions. The author suggests that every religious belief is based in the life-experience of the believing subject. Therefore the dialogue partners should not discuss the different images of God first but rather focus on questions about the reason and meaning of life. Through a discussion of these questions and answers, the dialogue partners could not only obtain information about each other's views about doctrines like the trinity but could also share their life-experience. Based on such an exchange, interreligious dialogue could successfully arrive at a better understanding of the religious persons and of their beliefs and images of God.
