Wedding Night and Marriage-Altar: Changes in the History of Marriage and Wedding. The author sets out to prove that today's image of the Christian marriage which was developed in the last few centuries overlooks the plurality of practices in history. The Church has participated in the ambivalence between individual and institutional interests in marriage. Today it should not bind itself to the present-day predominant image of marriage as if this concept had eternal validity.
