An politikwissenschaftliche Forschungen zu nichtstaatlichen Organisationen als zentralen Akteuren einer transnationalen Zivilgesellschaft anknüpfend, werden in einem historischen Überblick jene Organisationen untersucht, die die Kinderrechtsbewegung seit dem 19. Jahrhundert maßgeblich geprägt haben. Dabei geht es primär um deren Rolle im Prozess der Normentwicklung, -diffusion und -implementierung und weniger um eine inhaltliche Analyse dieser Rechte. Es wird argumentiert, dass die Generierung und Ausbreitung von Kinderrechten und deren weltweite Standardisierung von der Existenz von INGOs und transnationalen Netzwerken und deren Einfluss auf das internationale Politikregime abhängt.
Drawing on recent political science research on non-governmental organizations as central actors of a transnational civil society, this article investigates those organizations that have had a major influence on the children's rights movement since the nineteenth century. The focus is primarily on the role of these organizations within the process of norm emergence, diffusion, and internalization and less on the analysis of the rights themselves. It is argued that the development and spread of children's rights and their worldwide standardization depend on the existence of international non-governmental organizations and transnational networks as well as on their impact on the international political regime.
