After Nebuchadnezzar had conquered Jerusalem in 587/86 BC, the idea of Jahwe's presence in the temple changed fundamentally. There was no straight development to keep Jahwe at a distance from the world, but there were complex discussions in which the idea of his presence on Mount Zion was maintained as long as possible.
