The article explores ways in which the metaphor of "God's (final) judgment" is present in different contexts today (the arts, politics, liturgies), and it develops five basic rules of grammar (George A. Lindbeck) for speaking about it. Bultmann's concept of "Entmythologisierung" is critically re-evaluated: It is necessary to interpret the metaphor of God's judgment (and Christ's second coming), but it is more than problematic to try to eliminate this metaphor and replace it with its "true meaning", as already Karl Jaspers noted. In a short case study, the Jewish liturgical poem (pijjut) Unetane toqef shows how old language can be "ac-tualized" in different circumstances and gain new importance.
