Ideas of God's judgment, heaven and hell have a cultural-historical context in which they have to be perceived. This has to do with the ancient ethicization of the gods, but also with transitional processes between shame culture and guilt culture (Benedict, Dodds). A contemporary systematic-theological reformulation of the Christian faith should accentuate the concept of freedom and emphasize the perspective that God does not take away this most precious gift at some point. God is not a stalker in heaven who imposes a communion with himself on human beings. Judgment, heaven and hell are mythical but very meaningful concepts.
