In the face of declining membership and dwindling social relevance, the Protestant Church in Germany finds itself in a crisis of self-understanding. This article presents a deconstruction of the logic of numbers and size for dealing with this crisis. To this end, it presents two post-structuralist concepts. First, drawing on Gilles Deleuze, it introduces the concept of Minority as Becoming. Second, drawing on Jean-Luc Nancy, it outlines the vision of an "inoperative community". Based on this, church-theoretical theses theorizing the future of the church conclude the article.
