Neu "Kirchliche Zeitgeschichte" Überlegungen zu ihrer Verortung
Zeitschriftenartikel

"Contemporary church history" must be seen within the context of contemporary history in general. Chronologically, both cover the period from World War I to the present day. However, the term "contemporary church history" seems problematic: contemporary church history has emancipated itself not only from focusing on the administration of the church but also from confining its interest to the church alone. Thus, I regard the term "contemporary history of the studies of Protestantism" as more appropriate. Inevitably, the pluralism of issues and assessments is a part of it. One can emphasise religion within a secular context, as Habermas does, without referring to the church. in this case, the concept of responsible freedom IS an integrating variable. The "contemporary history of the studies of Protestantism" contributes to this wider issue. In this way it helps to shape an open and humane society.
