Currently, confirmation class concepts are experiencing a period of change and reorientation. The authors provide a brief description of the fundamental developments of confirmation preparation at the end of the 20th century as well as an overview over the most important conceptional ideas at the beginning of die 21st century. After this the authors define an orientation on tradition, environment, experience and relevance as a main pillar for confirmation preparation that cannot be ignored by future confirmation classes. An outlook considering the overall recognition of this important field of religious education completes the article.
