Neu Martin Luther und der Jakobusbrief
Zeitschriftenartikel

Luther struggled with the Letter of James all his life. His relationship to this Letter is not only characterized by his "Strohwort" (his 'straw indictment', that he considers the Letter of James a 'strawy epistle') in 1522, which he abandoned later on. Luther cherished the ethical relevance of the Letter of James and preached on it several times. Yet the interpretation of the relationship between faith and works in James 2:14-16 gave him trouble. Not only Zwingli and Calvin, but also theologians from Wittenberg interpreted this pericope to mean that good works belong to justification.
