Menschenrechte für Flüchtlinge
Zeitschriftenartikel

The author criticises demands by Ulrich Körtner und Johannes Fischer for a policy of restriction concerning the entry of refugees. According to these ethicists churches and other representatives of a human asylum policy support a deontological ethics of conviction without reflecting possible negative consequences for the hosting societies. They claim to support an ethics of responsibility in Max Weber's understanding. Their consequentialism, however, is restricted to effects on societies in Northern Europe. This is not in line with Christian universalism, the doctrine, that God has created all men in his own image and that Christian love does not know any limits. The author pleads for an ethics of human rights with respect to refugees which is in line with Christian ethics. The fact, that Europe has been constructed into a fortress for refugees hosting only 6% of displaced persons worldwide while the main burden is carried by poor countries in the south reveals an appalling lack of solidarity. Europe should observe international human rights standards for vulnerable refugees and make safe and legal avenues available to reach the EU in order to stop the thousandfold death at its external borders.
