Schwab, Ulrich
O du fröhliche ein Lied aus der evangelischen Jugendsozialarbeit
Zeitschriftenartikel

The article informs about the circumstances and steps of the creation of this song that today is sung in most German churches at the end of the Christmas service. The song is based on a Latin song to Mary and its Italian tune. Daniels Falk's first version published in 1817 contained one verse for Christmas, one for Easter and one for Pentecost and was written for the children's institution he had founded. But a later version with two additional verses to be sung at Christmas, written in 1826 by one of Falk's coworkers, has become the common version.
