For 60 years Otto Dibelius has served the Protestant Church. The period of his professional activities spans the Wilhelminian Empire, the Republic of Weimar, fascism and die first decades of the divided post-war Germany. The article sketches the major lines of his unique career as a Churchman and simultaneously puts it, through an analysis of four selected texts, in an adequate historical perspective.
