Neu Politische Flüchtlingskrise und öffentlicher Protestantismus
Zeitschriftenartikel

In contrast to the Roman Catholic theology Evangelical theology approaches the ethical challenges in the refugee discourse in a very fundamental way. Discussing the so called refugee crisis Protestant Theologians refer to Luther's two kingdoms doctrine, to Max Weber's distinction between ethics of attitude and ethics of responsibility and reconstruct Protestant identity (I.). The author examines Johannes Fischer's interpretation of Weber' distinction and criticizes that its result can be misunderstood in a way of rightwing populism (ll.). It is noteworthy that the Protestant critics of the German government and Churches do not refer to the Common Word of EKD and DBK published in 1997, in which all German Churches analysed the global problems of migration and flight and emphasized a universalistic understanding of the concept of responsibility (Ill.). Finally the current discourse is combined with Christian Albrecht's and Reiner Anselm's important proposal of 'Public Protestantism'. Protestant interventions in political area have to take into account both, political statements supporting weak and marginalised people in a society and common convictions of the whole society which are fundamental for Democracy (IV.). The current discourse shows that political pluralism is not yet completely internalized by German Evangelical theology.
