This contribution is a proposal to develop practical theology as a theory of communication of the Gospel. This would entail an increase of the scope of empirical data and of theological precision which is shown by the clarification of the terms constituting this concept: "communication" and "Gospel". The reconstruction of the empirical basic conditions of communication today and of the fundamental theological definitions of the Gospel which are founded on the bible and the history of Christianity leads to the formulation of the requirements for such a practical theology. Such a new approach to practical theological theory construction certainly calls for a reformatting of the topics and areas of practical theology.
