The renewed interest in Sigmund Freud during the 1960s is put in the context of political and social developments. Also, discovery of the value of psychoanalytic insights for approaches to pastoral care and religious education can be found in articles published in Pastoraltheologie during 1960s. By 1972 psychoanalysis as a major insight for pastoral care and counseling is institutionalized by the founding of the German Society for Pastoral Psychology.
